St Mary The Virgins Church

Summary : In 1066, the church was secular and had 12 monks, (see SO47NE7). Parish church with 13th and 16th century additions. Restored in 1890 by C Hodgson-Fowler. Built of rubble and ashlar sandstone. The church contains a painted plaster ceiling, of circa 1672, by Thomas Francis and stained glass by Charles Kempe.

A 10th crentury grave marker is built into the north face of the respond wall at the west end of the north aisle arcade. (2)
