More information : Hazelslack Tower, (SD 47 NE 8), a late 14th century pele tower. The hall to the east of the surviving ruined tower has been demolished. The east side of the tower shows the marks of the gable of a former adjoining building. (1a)
A rectilinear enclosure, 17m x 14m, east of and adjacent to Hazelslack Tower. The interior is sunken and fairly level, but the banks are slightly raised with respect to the adjacent ground level, and the entrance faces the tower. (1)
A probable post medieval rectilinear enclosure is visible as an earthwork on air photographs, centred at SD 4768 7884. The feature has a maximum internal dimension of 28m. The enclosure may be for stock management. The feature is extant on the latest 1991 Ordnance Survey vertical photography. (2) |
