1997-03-03 00:00:00- 1997-07-02 00:00:00 Air Photograph Interpretation RCHME: Etton causewayed enclosure

In 1997 an air photograph interpretation and transcription of Etton causewayed enclosure was undertaken by Aerial Survey, RCHME York as part of the Industry and Enclosure in the Neolithic project. An area of approximately 130 hectares was transcribed at 1:2500 scale using computer software. The area was selected to include a number of potentially contemporary features which lay within 500 m of the enclosure. The enclosure is sited on the First Terrace gravels of the River Welland, in the parish of Maxey. It lies towards the eastern end of a well-known and important multi-period cropmark landscape, which includes Neolithic cursus and henge monuments. To show the causewayed enclosure in this context, another transcription at 1:10000 scale was undertaken of approximately 250 hectares, which included the area of the larger scale plan. Medieval ridge and furrow, and twentieth century features were not transcribed for the sake of clarity. The transcriptions, written report and other documentation can be found in the project archive, collection UID 1085753.
