1991- 1997 Excavation CRESSING TEMPLE

Excavations on the walled garden, bullock shed, and Court Hall. Work in
1993 consisted of a series of watching briefs. Work in 1995 took place to evaluate proposals for a new visitor centre. In 1996 the medieval chapel
was re-excavated (Site code: CT 29). In 1997 the Tudor 'Greate House' was
investigated. Work in 1998 and 1999 formed a training excavation.

1996 Evaluation CRESSING TEMPLE VISITORS CENTRE (CT 30)

Site code: CT 30. Three trenches excavated prior to excavation (see
Event 1143797). Two north-south aligned ditches were revealed, one possibly
medieval with post medieval infill, the other probably post medieval.
Other medieval and and modern features were also discovered. Archive held
on site.

1996 Excavation CRESSING TEMPLE VISITORS CENTRE (CT 30)

Site code: CT30. Excavation following evaluation (Event 1143620) revealed
the brick footings of a previously unknown post medieval building, as well
as a timber slot and post holes of a medieval building to the north.
Ditches belonging to a medieval field system or trackway were also found.
See Event 925230 forwider ongoing project. Archive stored on site, to be
deposited with Braintree Museum.
