MEMBURY CAUSEWAYED ENCLOSURE, DEVON

1986 Excavation MEMBURY

Limited excavation of a 2x2.5m area. The excavators believed that the
features may be the ditch terminal of a causewayed enclosure. (Subsequent
excavations in the same area have suggested that the remains may actually
represent part of a pit grouping. See UIDs 1048492 & 1201951).

Trench 1 failed to relocate the 1984 trench, but did locate a RB ditch and
BA and RB truncated pits. No evidence of the conjectured NE causewayed
enclosure.
