Summary : 1879 wreck of Austro-Hungarian barque which stranded in the Coombe Valley, Morwenstow, en route from Dublin for Cardiff in ballast. Constructed of wood, she was a wooden sailing vessel. Her home port of Trieste is now in the modern state of Italy.
More information : Indexed as LEOPOLDINE BAUER.

Vessel went ashore approximately 5 miles north of Bude in dense fog and heavy ground seas. She anchored just outside the breakers, her crew taking to the boats and rowing out to sea, being picked up by a passing steamship, which landed them at Cardiff. The Bude lifeboat was called out, but was unsuccessful in getting to sea. The barque's cables eventually parted and she went on the rocks. At a subsequent auction the wreck was sold for about £40.
