`Newcastle, Jan. 3...Sunday the 21st ult. the brig SHEPHERD AND SHEPHERDESS, of Sunderland, Joshua Shepherd, master, from Southampton for Leith, with plank and bark, was stranded on one of the Fern Islands. The crew with great difficulty saved themselves upon the rock, where they continued 48 hours before any relief could be given them. A piece of raw beef and some biscuit was providentially drove on the rock from the wreck, which served them for sustenance.' (3)
