More information : SU 970460. Excavation in 1971, by Clare Smith at Binscombe Site III (see SU 94 NE 22 and 23 for Binscombe Sites I and II), as an emergency operation after builders had revealed ironstone tesserae. Occupation from early 1st to 4th centuries was found covering three successive phases. The site appears to have been enclosed by a ditch and bank with a fence also in phase 3. Medieval and Post-medieval pottery were also recovered. (1) |
