Summary : A Roman inscribed tombstone was found in Castle Street.

A fragment of inscribed tombstone was found in Castle Street near Bevis Monks. Now lost. It reads:

"[Dis Manilus] et memoriae [T]ulliae Numidi(ae... pie]ntissima femin[ae]... is reliqua cau..."

("In memory of Tulla Numidie... a most devoted woman...")

Another inscribed tombstone has been found in the Castle Street Bastian (TQ 38 SW 778).

A second fragment found in Castle Street reads "IVL... S... D" and is 18" by 18". (1)

(Castle Street is now Goring Street. See Auth 1 p. 100)
