Summary : German Bomber, 1940
More information : SS 877482. A German Junkers 88 fighter bomber was shot down and crash-landed on Porlock Beach (near New Works) during the Battle of Britain on September 27th 1940. It was seen lying at low water mark near Redsands (location not ascertained) by local author Dennis Corner (a).

The plane had been carrying highly sophisticated photographic equipment in order to photograph the dock gates of the Manchester Ship Canal and had been chased from the Bristol area by three spitfires. (Final credit went to Pilot Officer Eric Mars of 152 Squadron.) (1)
