The Battery [NAT] (1)

Earthworks: The Battery, Caermote - a small irregular enclosure. (2)

A sub-rectangular enclosure situated in a defensive position on the summit of a hill, and formed by two banks with a medial ditch. There are opposing, causewayed entrances on the NE and SW sides, but no internal remains.
The name is indicative of a Civil War context, but the form of the earthwork is more in keeping with an RB enclosure. Published survey (25") revised. (3)

NY 197378. Caermote Battery is a hill-top sub-rectangular enclosure of two banks and medial ditch. Dating evidence is completely lacking but it may be ?Roman or post-Roman. (4-5)
