More information : Colt Hoare shows on his map of `Stonehenge and its environs a large barrow at approximately SU 10874017, it is not however shown on his map of the Lake group and no written mention is made in Ancient Wilts. (1)
A bowl barrow 0.3m high at `U' - SU 10874017 is probably that shown by Colt Hoare on his map of `Stonehenge and Its Environs' but not mentioned by Grinsell in the VCH. Published 1:2500 survey revised. (2)
The barrow falls within the area mapped from aerial photographs by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. It has been included on the survey maps, but is covered by trees, and no further information could be added from aerial photographic evidence. (5)
Surveyed during the EH Stonehenge WHS Landscape Project; it is about 0.5m high and 16m in diameter but no surrounding ditch could be seen; measured by mapping-grade GPS the barrow lies about 20m NE of its position as depicted by the OS and RCHM (Authority 3). (6)
