MONUMENT NO. 938892

DESCRIPTION + /

During the excavations of Milecastle 35 (NY 87 SW 10) started in 1978, it was found that the milecastle was re-occupied in the medieval period. Three buildings were found within the Roman work, two of which could be identified as longhouses; from the evidence of finds it appears that the medieval occupation commenced in the 13th century and that it was abandoned during the general decline of the area resulting from the border raids of the 14th-16th century. The medieval remains were removed in the course of the excavation of the milecastle and nothing survives.
