Summary : Bronze Age bowl barrow, listed by Grinsell as Amesbury 5 and part of the barrow group south west of Stonehenge recorded as SU 14 SW 88. Excavated by Colt Hoare in the early 19th century without result. Geophysical survey in 1993-4 confirmed the presence of a surrounding ditch 39 metres in diameter. The mound survives to a height of 0.5 metres and the ditch is partly visible, 0.1m deep. The barrow is also visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, where it appears as two closely spaced concentric ditches. |

The barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, where it appears as two closely spaced concentric ditches with an overall diameter of 37m. It has been mapped by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. (7)
Mound measuring 32 by 30m and 0.5m high with a secondary mound on the summit; the ditch is still visible except to the east, 0.1m deep and up to 7m wide. (8)
