Summary : A group of four small circular mounds identified as possible Bronze Age round barrows by Grinsell (1957) and listed by him as Durrington 51b to 51e. However, he thought a recent origin was more likely. There is no longer any trace of these mounds on the ground. |
More information : SU 135437: Durrington 51 b-e, four small circular mounds situated between barrows SU 14 SW 266 and SU 14 SW 270. Identified by Grinsell. Each are 7 paces in diameter, 2ft high. They may be barrows but are probably of more recent origin. (1)
Durrington 51 b-e; barrows cannot be identified. (2)
This location falls within the area mapped from aerial photographs by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. No further information about these features could be obtained from aerial photographic evidence. (4) |
