More information : (TA 4065 1165) Anti-tank ditch, Easington
This `V' shaped anti-tank ditch was a vital part of the defences of the Spurn Point battery. The ditch was an earth and concrete construction which was intended to hamper the advancing troops of an invading army. The site was plotted from aerial photographs dated 1950 by the Fortress Studies Group, but when it was visited by the FSG in 1992 during the Holderness Survey it was found to be totally destroyed.(1-1a)
The monument is also visible as an earthwork on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. A further anti-tank ditch, U-shaped in plan, is visible to the north of the first, centred at TA 4092 1200. (2)
