More information : (TA 4039 1130) Locomotive shed, Easington
This engine shed provided the housing for the engines of the Spurn Point standard gauge railway. This was laid to help with the construction of Bull Sand Sea Fort and later was used to provision the Spurn Point batteries. The building origionally took the form of a single storey building with a steeply pitched roof. A large central doorway in the south wall allowed the steam engine access to the building, while smaller doors in the east side allowed the Railcar to enter. The building was built from rusticated concrete blocks, but when the site was visited by the Fortress Studies Group in 1992. Only sections of the floor inlaid with the track bed remained.(1-1a)
The monument and other military buildings of unknown function are visible as an upstanding structure on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. (2)
