MONUMENT NO. 926233

DESCRIPTION + /

A Bronze Age bowl barrow forming part of the Cow Down Barrow Cemetery. The barrow was designated as Collingbourne Ducis 8c by Grinsell (1957) and survives as a slight earthwork 21 metres in diameter and 0.3 metres high with slight traces of a barrow ditch. Aerial photographs show that the mound had been enlarged. Excavations by W.C Lukis in 1855 recorded no traces of a primary burial, but Bronze age pottery was recovered. An intrusive crouched inhumation was recorded. This is thought to be Iron Age, Roman or post Roman in date.
