The town of Chirbury was mentioned in 915 in the Anglo-Saxon Charters, which named the town as Cyricbyrig(1a). The Domesday book called the town Cireberie(1b), while the Book of Fees in 1226-28 called the town Chiresbir(1c). The name Chirbury is thought to mean `burg, or fort, with a church'.(1) |
