More information : SU 21655207: Collingbourne Kingston 9, a bowl barrow 21 paces in diameter 1.5ft high. Investigated by Colt Hoare (RCH 7), who may have found a cremation. (1, 2). This barrow was one of nine excavated by Thomas in 1957 (Barrow 6) and was found to have no barrow ditch. Features including stake and post holes, together with flint implements and pottery including beaker and grooved ware were found sealed by the barrow. These have been interpreted by Thomas as an earlier occupation site. These features are more likely to correspond to a pre-mound phase of the barrow. (3)
OS 1:2500 survey revised. (4)
Originally recorded as Collingbourne Kingston 9 by Goddard. (5)
There appears to be some confusion over which number this barrow was given by Colt Hoare; Grinsell states it is RCH 7 but Goddard states it to be RCH 8. (6)
