More information : (TG 23380890) King Edward VI Grammar School (1)
The College for priests was built by Bishop Salmon in 1316 adjacent to the chantry chapel of St John the Evangelist (TG 20 NW 362). The buildings were joined together and the porch added by Walter Lyhart (Bishop, 1446-72). Bought by Norwich Corporation in 1551, and the King Edward VI Grammer school, refounded in 1547 was transferred here. Restoration has taken place over the years since then and its present appearance is the result of work carried out 1937-40 by Mr Sundells, in the headmastership of Mr Acland. (2,3,4)
