More information : (TG23600884) Nos 51 to 56 The Close are a range of 13th century and later houses, which comprised the monastic Granary with the Steward's House at the west end and the Granarians House at the east end. (1)
No 51 is a 3 storey building of flint with red brick window dressings and pantiled roof.
No 52 is of 2 storeys, flint faced, with patches of red brick and a pantiled roof, and Tudor arched stone doorway.
No. 53 is 2 storeyed, flint faced with stone dressed windows and a tiled roof.
No 54 is of 3 storeys, flint and brick with brick window dressings.
No. 55 is 3 storeyed, of flint and brick with brick window dressings and a pantiled roof.
The original open timber granary roof survives in Nos 52, 54 and 55. Traces of 15th century window and chimney breast of Granarian's house also survive. (2)
