More information : SE 230 425 (LO). A rapid examination of air photographs (1a) reveals a large enclosure visible as cropmarks. Date unknown. Over/under lying possible ploughed out ridge and furrow. (1)
A large enclosure of probable Roman date is visible on oblique air photographs at SE 2297 4252. A large (c. 65x60m), near D-shaed ditch-defined enclosure with a possible east facing entrance. A possible field boundary extends from the southern corner.
Parch marks of a section of Tadcaster to Ilkley Roman Road (SE 24 SW 68) are recorded across the northern corner of this enclosure but the two are never visible on the same photographs. That there is no disruption to the ditch circuit at this point suggests the enclosure overlies the metalled road surface although the parch marks are too diffuse to demonstrate conclusively that the ditch cuts the road surface.
