Mount St Bernard Abbey, building begun in 1839 and in 1844 the monks
moved in. The Earl of Shrewsbury donated 2000 pounds and Pugin
provided his services for free. (2)

Mount St Bernard Abbey. Cistercian monastery. Church choir, cloister
ranges and centre-piece of guest house were built 1839-44 by A W N
Pugin. Extensions of later 1840s-1860s by E W Pugin including
octagonal chapter house (1860). The plan is based on Waverley Abbey,
the first medieval Cistercian foundation in England. Grade 2. (3)
