More information : (TA 3988 1096) Blockhouse/pillbox.
This roughly built blockhouse is constructed of concrete blocks, and was intended to provide flanking fire along the sea wall. Constructed around 1915, the building remained part of the battery defences through the First and Second World Wars. The site was visited by the Fortress Studes Group in 1992 during the Holderness Survey. The FSG found the site to be in poor condition, and felt that the site was at risk from both coastal erosion, and blown sand. (1-1a)
The monument is also visible as upstanding structures on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary.(2)
