More information : (TA 3969 1070) Coast artillery searchlight.
This single storey, rectangular structure is constructed of concrete and brick. It has a double door in the rear wall, and a large curved opening in the front wall. There is a circular vent over the searchlight mounting, which would provide cooling air for the large searchlights. The site was visited by the Fortress Studies Group in 1992 during the Holderness Survey, they found the site to be in poor condition and partially buried by sand. The FSG also considered the site to be at risk, both from further coverage by blown sand and from the effects of coastal erosion. (1-1a)
The monument is also visible as an upstanding structure on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. (2)
