More information : (TA 3975 1075) Engine room.
This fair-faced brick engine room was used to house the engine which powered the searchlights that served the Light Temporary Battery during the Second World War. It replaced the earlier, less powerful engine room, and could power the seven 90 cm and two 120 cm coastal artillery searchlights, as well as providing power for the rest of the camp. The building is a large, rectangular, flat roofed structure which was surveyed in 1992 by the Fortress Studies Group. The FSG found the site to be in good condition, but felt that it was at risk from the effects of coastal erosion and blown sand. (1-1a)
This monument and other military buildings of unknown functions with associated trackways are visible as upstanding structures on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. (2)
