More information : TA 2105 4755. `Eared' pillbox. (for full description see TA 15 SE 35) This pillbox of the `eared' type was intended to provide flanking fire along the beach at south promenade, Hornsea. It was part of the complex system of anti-invasion and invasion containment defences at Hornsea. The building was of reinforced concrete construction, and was plotted from aerial photographs dated 1945. The site was visited in 1992 by the Fortress Studies Group as part of the Holderness Survey, it was found to be completely destroyed. (1-1a)
The monument is also visible as an upstanding structure on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. Due to coastal erosion the monument no longer survives in situ. (2)
