More information : (`D' SU 18324099) Amesbury 79, a bowl barrow 28 paces in diameter, height 4ft. (1)
Amesbury 79, a bowl barrow 1.1m high. The barrow is situated within a field which has been recently ploughed and harrowed. There are no soil marks to indicate a ditch but it is probable that, when under pasture, it appears to have a ditch because of the practice of ploughing close to the base of tha barrow forming a slight ploughing headland. In good condition despite being ploughed. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (2)
Barrow originally recorded as Amesbury 79 by Goddard. (3)
The barrow is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and has been mapped by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. (5-6) |
