More information : (`B' SU 18314106) Amesbury 76. A bowl barrow 30 paces in diameter, height 8ft, ditched. LBA bucket urn, Salisbury Museum; other secondary interments noted in Feb 1933 by RS Newall. (1-2)
Amesbury 77. SU 18314106. A bowl barrow 2.6m high. There are no visible remains of a ditch. The field in which the barrow is located has recently been ploughed and harrowed. There are no soil marks indicating a ditch but it is probable that, when under pasture, it appeared to have a ditch due to the practice of ploughing close to the base of the barrow forming a slight ploughing headland. The barrow is in a good condition. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (3)
Barrow originally recorded as Amesbury 77 by Goddard. (4)
The barrow is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and has been mapped by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. (6-7) |
