More information : (`A' SU 18284106) Amesbury 76, a bowl barrow 22 paces in diameter, height 6ft. LBA pottery found by Grinsell in 1951. (1)
Amesbury 76, SU 18284106, a bowl barrow 1.4m high. The field in which the barrow is situated has recently been ploughed and harrowed. There is no soilmark to indicate a ditch but it is probable that, when under pasture it appears to have a ditch due to ploughing close to the base forming a slight ploughing headland. It is in good condition. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (2)
Barrow originally recorded as Amesbury 76 by Goddard. (3)
The barrow is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and has been mapped by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. (4-5) |
