Summary : The site of a Roman settlement at Shiptonthorpe. Excavation of the Romano-British ribbon settlement site at Skelfrey Park identified it was probably of 2nd-4th century AD date. It was possibly a Small Town.
More information : SE 852 424. Roman `small town'. A linear settlement along the Brough to York Roman Road excavated on either side of the road. C2-4th ditches examined. (1)

Much pottery and some evidence of burials. (2)
