More information : SE 7825 6970. There are a number of closes to the east of Welham Hall, but these have produced no pottery finds during modern ploughing. The core of the village therefore may lie to the west as is shown on an 18th century map. The village was called `Wellun' in the Domesday Book. In a 12th century document referring to tithes the Welham chapel is mentioned, indicating its location in or near the village. Also in the tithe document, a mill is mentioned. Wellom Grange is indicated on the property list of Malton Priory at the Dissolution. There is no locational detail to relate it to the village. (1-1e)
