More information : [NY 0849 4797] Roman tower No. 15A was excavated in October, 1954; it is nearly due west from Bank Mill and within 80 yds of the shore. The east wall of two courses of unmortared masonry was found to be all that remained of a 19' 10" square building. Samian, coarse ware and occupation debris was found. (1)
Nothing of interest visible on the ground. A local resident indicated the excavation site, precisely as referenced above; it was filled-in and re-turfed. (2)
The position of tower 15a was pointed out on the ground by Mr James (3a), and verified on site by Bellhouse (3b) at NY 0850 4795. It occurs on the summit of the highest dune in an area of consolidated dunes; vauge traces of the excavation trenches are still discernible. (3)
