More information : (2) gives place of loss as near mouth of Bude Harbour.
"Steamer LLANDAFF has been towed into West Dock this tide by WHITE ROSE, disabled."(3)
First noticed by the Bude Coastguards in a disabled condition off the harbour during the early hours of a Monday morning. Unable to maintain her course in a gale, the small three masted steamship drove ashore between 6-7am. She settled down on the seaward side of a small ridge running off from the Barrel rock. Her crew were rescued by the Bude rocket apparatus and safely landed on the quay. Her master stated that the vessel had been overtaken by rough weather and had been beating about offshore since 4am the previous day. nb. Ownership appears uncertain since one source names Morgan Wakley, Mount Stuart Square, Cardiff (RCG); whereas another quotes J T Short, Cardiff (BOT) and Lloyds Register states T W Ward.
