Summary : A grave was excavated c 1897 and found to contain bones, charcoal, flints and fragments of a pottery vessel.

`In May 1897 burials discovered at quarry when pieces of urn rolled
down. Bones were found in a grave which was c. 6 feet long, 14-18
inches wide and c. 2 feet deep; it was aligned north-south and
contained much charcoal...In the ends of the grave were about 6
inches of charred wood and bones mixed together at the bottom'.
Flints were also found and `the larger half of a small earthenware
vessel'. The flints included a knife, 51 mm long,
23 mm wide and 7 mm thick: very worn'. (1)
