Summary : A probable Roman villa discovered via fieldwalking. After the discovery of Roman pottery and tile, an area was cleared revealing a corridor mosaic 2.6 metres wide. Other finds include painted wall plaster and a coin of Constantine. Scott, who includes the site in her gazetteer of Roman villas, describes the mosaic as featuring "coarser tesserae for guilloche border, and finer tesserae for four black birds set at each corner". She also refers to an "obvious" building platform.
More information : Roman villa, c5 hectares, probably of corridor type with
projecting wings, was discovered while field walking, cleared to
reveal pavement mosaic. Pottery of 2nd and 4th c, tile, painted
wallplaster and coin of Constantine found. Romano-British pottery
found at TF 183932. (1-3)

In vicinity of villa, two extensive (4.5 ha and 2.7 ha) Romano-
British "ladder" complexes were fieldwalked. (4)
