MONUMENT NO. 893061

DESCRIPTION + /

A probable Roman villa discovered via fieldwalking. After the discovery of Roman pottery and tile, an area was cleared revealing a corridor mosaic 2.6 metres wide. Other finds include painted wall plaster and a coin of Constantine. Scott, who includes the site in her gazetteer of Roman villas, describes the mosaic as featuring "coarser tesserae for guilloche border, and finer tesserae for four black birds set at each corner". She also refers to an "obvious" building platform.
