More information : Moat at Manor House, possible manorial moat is now PM ornamental garden feature, surveyed. (1-2)
The moat surrounded a 4m high 18th century gazebo mound in 1977. (3)
TF 04873605. Moated site, Newton. Scheduled RSM no. 22625. (4)
The moat described by the previous authorities was visible as an earthwork and has been mapped from poor quality air photographs. The moat is defined by a rectilinear enclosure with internal dimensions of 20m by 20m. It is defined by a substantial ditch and is centred at TF 0487 3604. The photography was too poor to discern any features within the moat. Perpendicular ditches adjacent to the moat (centred at TF 0491 3609) may be associated post-Medieval garden features but could equally be Medieval boundaries. (Morph No. LI.840.4.1-2)
