More information : TF 090892 area. Shrunken village of Middle Rasen Drax. A few earthworks survive along the through road: elsewhere modern housing estates have obliterated everything and obscured even the street system mapped in 1772-4. TF 087895. Shrunken village of Middle Rasen Tupholme. Earthworks within now amalgamated properties in the N show that the pattern of long tofts was formerly more complete. (1-3)
The Medieval or Post Medieval settlement described by authorities 1-3 was visible as earthworks on good quality air photographs. At TF 090 892, no features were recorded from air photographs, but to the north, centred at TF 0856 8951, a group of crofts, 25m wide, were visible. Flanking the main E-W Gainsborough Road, more fragments of crofts were recorded, at TF 0876 8913, TF 0903 8887 and TF 0866 8891. Two ponds were visible at TF 0865 8920.
Several `blocks' of ridge and furrow also flank the road, extending from TF 0814 8872 to TF 0915 8897. One `block' of ridge and furrow was also recorded east of the settlement at TF 0952 8950. (Morph No. LI.511.2.1-4)
