More information : Site of Medieval shrunken village at Stainby suggested after building stone was ploughed up in village centre. Given NGR SK 919227 presumed incorrect. See also SK 92 SW 2. (1)
Evidence of a Medieval village at Stainby, described by authority 1, was seen in the form of earthwork crofts and a toft. The crofts are ditch-defined, 24m wide, and at least 100m long. Only one toft is visible (centred at SK 9075 2279), bank-defined, approximately 12m by 26m and it is cut by a later field boundary (see SK 92 SW 32). (Morph No. LI.819.1.1 - 1.2)
