Evidence of a Medieval village at Stainby, described by authority
1, was seen in the form of earthwork crofts and a toft. The crofts
are ditch-defined, 24m wide, and at least 100m long. Only one toft
is visible (centred at SK 9075 2279), bank-defined, approximately
12m by 26m and it is cut by a later field boundary (see SK 92 SW 32).
