Summary : Site of a Bronze Age bowl barrow, forming part of the Aston Valley Barrow Cemetery, situated south of Codford Down. The barrow, designated as Codford St Peter 4c by Grinsell (1957), was situated within the northwest area of the cemetery. Excavations by William Cunnington in 1801 recorded an urned primary cremation. The re-excavation of the barrow in 1957 by Rev. E.H Steele located much burnt bone and pottery sherds. It is not certain whether these were some of Cunnington's discoveries left in situ. |
