MONUMENT NO. 888063

DESCRIPTION + /

Site of a Bronze Age bowl barrow forming part of the Aston Valley Barrow Cemetery situated south of Codford Down. The barrow, designated as Codford St Peter 4b by Grinsell (1957), is located to the west of the barrow cemetery. Excavations by William Cunnington in 1801 recorded an urned primary cremation. The barrow was re-excavated in 1957 by Rev. E.H Steele, who located two Bronze Age urns. It is not certain whether these were Cunnington's discoveries left in situ.
