MONUMENT NO. 887751

DESCRIPTION + /

Site of a possible Bronze Age round barrow forming part of the Aston Valley Barrow Cemetery situated south of Codford Down. The barrow, designated as Codford St Peter 1 by Grinsell (1957), is located to the north of the other barrows within the cemetery. Excavations by William Cunnington in 1801 located a probable primary inhumation in a wooden coffin. The supine extended inhumation was orientated north-south. It is not certain whether the burial is Roman or Early Saxon in date.
