Summary : A Bronze Age bowl barrow forming part of the Aston Valley Barrow Cemetery situated south of Codford Down. The barrow, designated as Codford St Peter 2 by Grinsell (1957), is located to the north of the largest bowl barrow (monument HOBUID 887655 -ST 94 SE 54) and survives as an earthwork. The mound is up to one metre high and 20 metres across and has been truncated on its eastern edge by ploughing. Excavations by William Cunnington in 1801 located a probable Bronze Age primary cremation. |
