Summary : A Bronze Age bowl barrow forming part of the Aston Valley Barrow Cemetery situated south of Codford Down. The barrow, designated as Codford St Peter 1 by Grinsell (1957), is located to the south of the other barrows within the cemetery and is the largest surviving bowl barrow in the cemetery. It has a mound up to 2.2 metres high and 23.5 metres in diameter. Partial excavation of the barrow by William Cunnington in 1801 located a probable primary cremation associated with a large urn and many secondaries including inhumation burials, one contracted and nine Bronze Age urns with cremations. |

Barrow A: Codford St Peter 1, the mound is 23 paces in diameter, 5 feet high planted with firs and surrounded by a tree ring which is probably 18th century. Grinsell is uncertain as to whether it is a bowl or bell barrow, Crawford seems to have accepted it as a bowl barrow. Cunnington's excavations located a probable primary cremation with a large urn assumed to be middle Bronze Age and many secondaries including inhumation burials, one contracted and nine Late Bronze Age urns with cremations. Many Late Bronze Age sherds and burnt bones have been found in recent times and and are in Salisbury Museum. (2-4)
Barrow A ST 97904268: A two metre high barrow, is now squared off at the base and once had a reservoir constructed within it. (5)
