More information : [Area NY 07072536] In the churchyard at Dean, is the pedestal and base of a preaching cross. The top stone surmounted by a sundial is comparatively modern; .. there is no trace of the original head of the cross. It is traditionally associated with the monks from Calder Abbey. (1) An octagonal stone cross base upon a calvary of six steps. A stone shaft cemented within the base, carries a sun dial, the gnomon of which is inscribed 1825. The base, of two stories and decorated, has an overall height of 0.7m and a diameter of 0.9m, the former octagonal socket has a diameter of 0.3m. The calvary has an overall height of 1.6m and a base diamter of 4.7m. The whole is very weathered, and shows signs of modern restoration in the form of iron clamps.
