Turris Aquilonis

Hob Uid: 879534
Location :
Norfolk
King's Lynn and West Norfolk
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : TF6229020520
Summary : Site of a Medieval mural tower which stood until 1890. It may be later 13th century in date.
More information : (Approx. TF62292052).Turris Aquilonis was a mural tower which stood at Kettlemill until ca.1890. This may have been the Black Tower, which is mentioned as of a pair with the White Tower, (TF62SW77), but has no known site.(1)

This tower, said to have survived until 1890, is not shown on the Bell and Rastrick maps, unless perhaps as the `Water Engine' or windmill at Kettlemill. If Mediaeval, the tower would probably have been of the same date as the White Tower, ie, the latter part of the C13th.)
