Summary : Also known as St Catherine's Gate. Site of Medieval Town Gate extant in the 13th century, altered in the 14th century and in 1582, and demolished in 1800.
More information : (TF62332036) East Gate (site of) [NR].(1) The East Gate, or St Catherine's Gate, existed in the C13th, but illustrations suggest that the last gateway on the site was C14th, with rebuilding in 1542. It was destroyed in 1800.(2-3) (Authy.3 states that it was destroyed in 1890, a misprint, for it is not extant in 1885, when authy.4 was produced.)
