Owen and Blakeway refer to a charter of 1227 in which there is mention of a "grant of land in a declivity of the city, (Salopsbery), near Sav the planting of a vineyard..." They say that the abbey vineyard must have occupied the bank under the South an SE town wall, where the infirmary and other houses now stand.(1)
The area indicated is now occupied by gardens and modern buildings.(2)
