More information : [Area centred: TA 14811656] Moat [G.T.] (1) Traces of extensive foundations of a deep moat or other defensive earthwork in the field known locally as Blow Field are probably Norman if not earlier. Stukeley(a) refers to a great castle at Killingholme [this may, however, be TA 11 NW 8]; and occasionally Roman coins and pottery are found in the parish. (2) An extensive manorial work resurveyed at 1/2500. There are no surface indications of a castle or major building, and there is no local knowledge of any archaeological finds. The name 'Blow Field' could not be confirmed. (3) These earthworks no longer extant. (4)
